ethos & approach
Thank you for visiting.
When we work together on a project that requires photography, I would like you to know what you can expect as we head into capturing your needs.
Here are the three things that I consider core to my approach.
1. Quality over quantity
Photography is a lot of things to a lot of different people. Some photographers may intend to capture absolutely everything. When you work with me, less is more. I have worked my way up to exceptional optical quality and work exclusively with equipment that promises (and delivers) beyond-premium optical quality. I shoot entirely with the Fujifilm GFX 50SII, and rotate between prime lenses as situations desire. For wedding and engagement, I often prefer the Fujinon GF 80mm f1.7. This medium format system captures light, depth of field, and sharpness in outstanding detail. As a result, I shoot fewer photos, though at a higher image quality.
2. Artistic approach
When we work together, you are shopping for a style that I have specialized in. To each project, I bring a specific vision. The result is that the leg-work of defining, planning, and capturing is already entirely prepared in advance. I specialize in documentary-style photography: this means that you proceed with your day, investing in experiencing each moment as it happens, while my work continues in the background. I capture the story of your day as it happens. The candids, the speeches, the laughs, tears, heartfelt moments, and more - continue as they might normally. I will not ask for poses, except for very specific circumstances.
3. Multi-faceted delivery
Sharing your biggest moments on social media is critical - to each and every story we choose to craft. When we work together on your wedding day, feel comfortable knowing that you will get immediate proofs of the images (pre-edited), to share to social media as soon as the day after the big day. I bring a multi-faceted approach where the most critical images can be delivered near instantaneously, whereas for the photos that truly need that attention to detail for timeless, striking moments, delivery is expected along a market-standard timeline. This ensures that you can share at your own pace, and for the timeless pieces, whether for print or digital, photos are handled with care and detail.
Here is the process you can expect when you choose to work together:
A. Project discussion over coffee
I am a coffee snob, so rest assured that we'll get the snobbiest pour-over in Edmonton. Whether for wedding / engagement or commercial work, we will discuss your goals, inspiration, needs, nice-to-haves, and more.
B. Consistent communication
Once we have agreed to work together, we will keep in close and regular contact to refine goals, share mood-boards, plan and prepare as needed.
C. Photography
On the day of the shoot, I will work according to my style and approach, while securing your needs and nice-to-haves. For commercial work, poses are standard, but for weddings, there will be specific sections to be posed throughout the day. Otherwise, I will understand the schedule in advance, and stay in the background capturing the story of the day as it unfolds.
D. Delivery
On specific, high impact days, such as weddings, I will share photos of the key moments on the night of, or the day after in social-media sized images so you can share immediately. Then, I will begin the selection and editing process, sharing photos over coffee again and returning to any photos that you feel require special attention.
I truly care about capturing real, human moments and exceptional photographs. I would be honoured to work with you and exceed your needs.
